The Preaching of Christ
(part 2)
| 1. How does the minister preach about Jesus? | |
| The same way the Bible teaches about Jesus. | 1 Tim 3:14-17 |
| He preaches that I need a Savior because of Adam's sin. | Rom 5:12-21, Acts 7 |
| He preaches how no one but Jesus can be that Savior. | John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Cor 3:11 |
| And he preaches what a great salvation Jesus brought | Eph 1:3-23; Heb 1:1-14 |
| and how I must long for that salvation to appear at the last day. | 1 Pet 1:13; Rom 8:23; |
| 1 Th 1:9,10; Titus 2:13; Heb 9:28 | |
| 2. What does the minister preach about you? | |
| The minister preaches that what happened to Jesus has happened to me. | |
| Jesus died to sin, so I have died to sin. | Rom 6:3,4; Gal 2:20 |
| Jesus is alive to righteousness, so I am alive to righteousness. | Rom 6:5,11; Col 2:11-13 |
| Jesus is in heaven with God, so I am in heaven with God. | Eph 1:20, 2:6; Col 3:1 |
| 3. What does it mean that you are dead to sin? | |
| Being dead to sin means sin has no power over me. | |
| Sin cannot tell me what to do. | Rom 6:6,7,14 |
| 4. What does it mean that you are alive to righteousness? | |
| Being alive to righteousness means | |
| I have a new life, far away from sin, in Jesus Christ. | Col 3:1-10 |
| The Spirit of my righteous Savior lives in me | Rom 8:11 |
| and strengthens me to do only good things. | Rom 8:4; Gal 5:22,23; Eph 3:16 |
| 5. What does it mean that you are in heaven with Jesus? | |
| Being in heaven with Jesus means my home is already with God. | Php 3:20; Eph 2:19 |
| I do not love this world, because it will pass away; | Heb 10:34 |
| but I love the things in heaven that last forever. | Matt 6:19,20; 2 Cor 4:18 |
| 6. Does the minister preach what you are supposed to do? | |
| Yes. He teaches me to turn my back on this world | Rom 12:2; Jas 4:4; 1 John 2:15 |
| just as Jesus did when he went to the cross. | Matt 16:21-25 |
| He teaches me to live as someone who already belongs to heaven | Col 3:1-3; Eph 5:8 |
| because Jesus has gone ahead of me into heaven. | John 14:2,3; Heb 12:2 |
| And he teaches me to wait eagerly for the day when Jesus appears. | 1 Cor 1:7,8; Heb 9:28 |
| 7. How else does the minister preach what you are supposed to do? | |
| He teaches me to hate my sin because it is not like Jesus. | Eph 4:19,20 |
| He teaches me to love righteousness because it is like Jesus. | John 13:15; Eph 5:2 |
| And he teaches me to depend on Jesus for everything I need. | John 15:5; Php 4:13,19 |
| 8. May the minister preach his own opinions? | |
| No. The minister must preach the word of God only. | 1 Cor 2:13; 2 Cor 4:5 |
| He must be able to tell me, "This is what God says" | |
| at the end of every sermon. | 1 Th 2:13; 1 Pet 4:11 |
| 9. But does the minister never make mistakes? | |
| The minister does make mistakes. | |
| But I must listen to him expecting to hear God's word | 1 Th 2:13; Heb 13:7; 1 Pet 1:23-25 |
| and he must be careful to preach only the word of God. | 1 Tim 3:16 - 4:2; Titus 1:9; 1 Pet 4:11 |
